Sandy Baker - September 2026 Educator of the Month
Franklin County Community School Corporation is proud to recognize Mrs. Sandy Baker, 6th/8th Grade Math Teacher at Franklin County Middle School, as our Educator of the Month!
Mrs. Baker earned her Bachelor of Science from Ball State University and her Masters of Business Administration from Indiana Wesleyan University. She has been a valued member of FCCSC for 10 years, serving as both a substitute teacher and paraprofessional before transitioning into the classroom. Sandy has spent the past three years serving as a classroom teacher.
Sandy was nominated for this honor by a parent who shared: “I would like to take a moment to recognize a teacher who has made such a difference in a few short days to my 8th grade daughter. When you have a child with an IEP, you see discouragement in their eyes more often than you wish you did. You watch them struggle with things that come easily to others, and as a parent, you just hope that they find a teacher who sees beyond what is written on a piece of paper - one that sees THEM. For my daughter this year, that teacher has been Mrs. Baker. She is so meticulous in following her IEP. Always discreetly checking in with my daughter to make sure she is comfortable with the content, never rushes her and she answers EVERY.SINGLE.QUESTION. Even the ones that have been asked and answered 4,000 times. She has created a place where she feels safe enough to ask for help and confident enough to keep asking and keep trying. This is LIFE changing for a struggling student. When our daughter talks to us about math after school, she lights up! She is proud of herself and the progress she made on the homework in class - alone! Mrs. Baker hasn’t just helped her become better at math, she has helped her believe in herself. And as her mother, there is no greater gift a teacher could give me. Mrs. Baker, thank you. Thank you for your patience, your kindness, and for seeing the potential not the problem. Thank you for seeing the ABILITY, not the DISabaility. Thank you for helping her see it in herself, too. We are excited to watch her grow this year…and we have YOU to thank for that.”
Beyond the classroom, Sandy attends St. Peter’s Catholic Church. She enjoys watching live sports, especially when her children or students are competing. When she is not at a sporting event, she enjoys gardening, reading, and spending time with family and friends.
When asked about the most rewarding part of her job, Mrs. Baker shared: “Getting to know my students personally, not just as students in my classroom. I love building relationships with them and continuing to support them even after they are no longer in my class. One of the most rewarding things is seeing them out in the community, especially at sporting events, and being able to cheer them on and celebrate their accomplishments. It’s special to watch them grow and know that I can continue to be a positive and supportive person in their lives.”
