Ms. Heather Chamberlain - October 2025 Educator of the Month
Franklin County Community School Corporation is thrilled to shine a spotlight on Mrs. Heather Chamberlain for October’s Educator of the Month.
Mrs. Chamberlain serves as the art teacher at Mt. Carmel School and Franklin County Middle School. Though she has been a valued member of the FCCSC team for just two years, she brings 19 years of teaching experience to her classroom. A graduate of Morehead State University, she holds a Bachelor of Arts in Art with Teacher Certification P-12.
Known for her calm presence, kindness, and ability to connect with students of all backgrounds, Mrs. Chamberlain was nominated for this honor by one of her own students. The student wrote: “I enjoy Mrs. Chamberlain’s class because it’s a good time in the middle of the day to relax and just enjoy art. She has also inspired me to be more artistic—I even started painting! The reason I would like to nominate her is because there was this one time when another student I sat next to was feeling insecure about herself. She was talking bad about herself, and Mrs. Chamberlain took the time to make sure she was okay and even let her go to the office for as long as she needed. As she was doing this, many kids were asking her questions and walking around her, but she stayed calm and focused on the students' needs. I feel she truly deserves Educator of the Month.”
In addition to her classroom contributions, Mrs. Chamberlain is actively involved in the school and local community. She is a member of both the Art Education Association of Indiana and the National Art Education Association, and she also supports student engagement through her involvement with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) at Franklin County Middle School.
Outside of school, she enjoys traveling, trying new recipes, coloring, and listening to My Brother’s Keeper.
When asked what she enjoys most about teaching, Mrs. Chamberlain shared: “Every day is different! I love that I get to play with art supplies all day long. I love building relationships with the kids and having them feel comfortable enough to talk to me about anything. I enjoy connecting with students who struggle in traditional academic settings, and watching them find their voices through mastering skills and developing creativity they didn’t even know they had. I love what I do, and in the words of Mark Twain, ‘If you love what you do, you’ll never work a day in your life.’ At the end of the day, what I enjoy most is seeing students come into the art room and not want to leave, knowing I am providing them a place they feel cared for.”
FCCSC is honored to celebrate Mrs. Heather Chamberlain’s dedication, talent, and the meaningful difference she makes in students’ lives.
