March 2024 Educator of the Month

Superintendent, Ms. Tammy Chavis, is honored to announce that Mrs. Alyson Cochran has been selected as March’s “Educator of the Month.”

Mrs. Cochran joined the FCCSC as a secretary for about six years. While in this position, she earned her Bachelor of Arts in Education through Western Governors University. After a long term subbing position, Aly became a second grade teacher at Mt. Carmel Elementary. Mrs. Cochran has been thriving in the classroom for a year now!

Mrs. Cochran was nominated for this honor by a parent.  When asked why Aly should be considered for this recognition, she responded, “Mrs. Cochran is a rockstar! She has had such a positive, meaningful impact on my son. My second grade son hasn’t been the biggest fan of school. He would rather be outside and farming. However, since entering Mrs. Cochran’s class, he no longer dreads, fights, complains about going to school. He actually looks forward to going – to the point he sets his own alarm! After school he will excitedly tell me all that happened that day. Aly makes learning meaningful to him. Her hands-on, classroom movement/engagement, teaching entertainment, FUN, Student-specific teaching methods are exactly what all students need to actively learn. She consistently builds his confidence – not an easy feat. She also communicates like no other teacher I have ever seen. She sends out weekly newsletters and daily pictures/class updates/student successes. As a parent, this makes my heart happy! I love feeling connected to what is going on. Mrs. Cochran is relatable, understanding, compassionate, relevant, loving, fun, student-centered and a communication wiz teacher!”

In addition to her responsibilities at MCS, Aly is an active member of Brookville Road Baptist Church where she teaches children’s classes, sings in the praise band, and helps direct the Christmas play each year. She also volunteers for the Franklin County 4H fair and announces at the animal shows. Aly commented, “I love being a member of this community!”

In her “free” time, Aly loves spending time with her daughters, husband and extended family. She loves being an aunt and can often be found on the bleachers at her nieces and nephews sporting events.

When asked what she loves most about her job, Mrs. Cochran responded, “Although I love teaching for many reasons, my absolute favorite part is the relationships I get to build with my students and their families. I feel so privileged to get to be even a small part of their journey in life. Watching their confidence grow, academic skills grow, and even their personalities grow, is something I cherish. I hope I never lose the excitement it brings when one of my students masters a new concept and I can see the “a-ha” smile spread across their face. I come into the classroom hoping to make a positive impact on their lives and their futures and quickly realize, it is THEY who are leaving a lasting mark on my heart that I will cherish forever!”
The purpose of the “Educator of the Month” program is to recognize outstanding Franklin County educators who demonstrate excellence in the classroom, leadership in the school, dedication to the students, and involvement in the community.
