April 2019 Educator of the Month

The Franklin County County School Corporation, along with Franklin County High School, is thrilled to announce that Mrs. Stephanie Hoffman has been selected as April’s “Educator of the Month”.  After graduating from Indiana University East, Mrs. Hoffman was hired to teach science at Franklin County High School. Now in her 14th year of teaching, her current assignment includes Chemistry I, AP Chemistry, and AP Biology.  While working as a teacher at the high school, Mrs. Hoffman has been able to complete additional coursework through Illinois State University, Indiana University, and Indiana Wesleyan University.

Beyond the school day, Mrs. Hoffman is active in her community.  She helps at the local food pantry once a month. She recently attended World Youth Day in Panama with a group from All Saints Parish and had the opportunity to share with her students information and pictures about the rainforest and Panama Canal. She also volunteers her time to help with the local girl scouts summer camp.

During her tenure at Franklin County High School, Mrs. Hoffman has been recognized as an ISTAR teacher four times.  This year, she was nominated for this award by FCHS senior, Taylor Stewart. Students recognize that Mrs. Hoffman’s main goal is to provide students with the knowledge and skill necessary to succeed in life.  Most students describe her as “tough”, meaning that she teaches a rigorous curriculum to challenge students. The student who nominated Mrs. Hoffman for this recognition wrote, “I have always found Mrs. Hoffman to be fair, accommodating, and ready to help.  Although she pushes her students, she by no means neglects them. She makes extra efforts to create interactive lessons and labs that will ingrain the learning material into our minds and most importantly, she challenges her students to go beyond what is expected in class to immerse ourselves in the material independently.”

When asked about the best part of being a teacher at Franklin County, Mrs. Hoffman responded, “The best part of my job is having the awesome opportunity to see students grow as they strive to become young adults who can make a difference in the lives of the people around them and my fabulous, supportive, and inspiring coworkers.”

The purpose of the “Educator of the Month” program is to recognize outstanding Franklin County educators who demonstrate excellence in the classroom, leadership in the school, dedication to the students, and involvement in the community.  Nomination forms for “Educator of the Month” can be found on the school corporation website at www.fccsc.k12.in.us.
