Mrs. Hannah Kolb Named January’s Educator of the Month

The entire Mt. Carmel School Community is thrilled to announce that Mrs. Hannah Kolb has been selected as January’s “Educator of the Month”.  Mrs. Kolb currently teaches kindergarten at Mt. Carmel School.

After graduating from Franklin County High School, Mrs. Kolb earned her degree in elementary education from Indiana University East.  Her first teaching job was at Eastview Elementary School in Connersville, Indiana. With a year of teaching under her belt, Mrs. Kolb was hired by the Franklin County Community School Corporation.   In her eleventh year at FC, she has taught at Laurel and Mt. Carmel Schools. This is her fifth year as a kindergarten teacher at Mt. Carmel.

In addition to her teaching duties, Mrs. Kolb is very active in her church and with her young family.  She is part of the Praise Band at the Brookville Road Baptist Church and serves as the Children’s Ministry Director along with her husband.  In addition, she volunteers her time at the New Life Mission in Hamilton, Ohio.

Mrs. Kolb was nominated for this honor, by a parent from Mt. Carmel School.  In the nomination, the parent described Mrs. Kolb as loving, caring, and compassionate.  “She makes her students feel special and they are learning by leaps and bounds. She is very patient with them, especially those who need it the most!”

When asked why she chose to become a teacher, Mrs. Kolb responded, “There is nothing else in this world that I would rather do than teach. What an awesome responsibility it is to have the opportunity to make an impact on a child’s life. Kindergarten is such a special grade because the students grow in so many areas–both socially and academically. Of course, I love watching the academic growth of a student. However, my absolute favorite part of my job is to watch timid students who are unsure of their abilities begin to excel and believe in themselves. There is no greater reward.”

The purpose of the “Educator of the Month” program is to recognize outstanding Franklin County educators who demonstrate excellence in the classroom, leadership in the school, dedication to the students, and involvement in the community.  Nomination forms for “Educator of the Month” can be found on the school corporation website at www.fccsc.k12.in.us.
