2017 AGstravaganza Outreach Event

2017 AGstravaganza Outreach Event Hosts K-8th Grade FCCSC Students

How do pollinators benefit our crops?  What crop species are prevalent in Indiana? How does farm machinery make modern agriculture more efficient and affect our food prices?  What steps of production occur from the chicken egg to the meal on your plate?  Why is grain dangerous, and how can you stay safe on the farm? These are all questions that Agriculture Education and FFA students answered through hands-on educational activities with 1,200 Kindergarten through 8th Grade students of Franklin County Community Schools participating on Thursday, May 11th and Friday, May 12th.

Agriculture Education students have been planning the outreach event all year.  From selecting important agricultural topics to creating fun and engaging, but yet differentiated activities for students of a wide range of grade levels, the Agriculture Education students were responsible for the planning of a very large and important event.

Community organizations were also involved in the day – The Farm Service Agency, Farm Bureau, Extension Service, as well as members of our Franklin County Agricultural community were involved in the education of various Agricultural topics.

Agriculture Education students collaborated on presentations ranging from grain safety to animal safety, to crop species and animal classification.  Over 30 booths were hosted in a fair-like setting for students to learn at their own pace.
