2015 National LifeSmarts Championship

The Franklin County High School LifeSmarts team represented the State of Indiana at the National Lifesmarts Championship in Seattle, Washington, April 17th-20th. The team consisted of Captain Mary Pennington, Ashlie Raible, Alexa Blessing, Emma Elmore and Coach Mrs. Diana Slaven. Thirty-six teams were represented at the conference. Team Indiana competed exceptionally well in their last challenge round scored over 100 points and defeated their sister team, Massachusetts. Our team this year consisted of four sophomores.

Ashlie Raible won a $750 scholarship for her Safety Smart Ambassador PowerPoint and Mary Pennington received honorable mention. The team received a $900 travel stipend for their Safety Smart Presentations to students at Brookville Elementary. Mary Pennington designed the Indiana LifeSmarts T-shirt. The five categories of Personal Finance, Consumer Rights, Health and Safety, Technology, and the Environment were represented on the front of the green long sleeve T-shirt.

Ashley Raible wins $750 Safety Smart Ambassador Scholarship at LifeSmarts Championship

The Franklin County High School LifeSmarts team represented the State of Indiana at the National Lifesmarts Championship in Seattle, Washington, April 17-20. During the school year, students were offered the opportunity to create Safety Smart PowerPoints and present them to elementary students. These PowerPoints allowed students the opportunity to be awarded a $750 Scholarship at the conference and the opportunity to receive travel stipends for their team. Ashley Raible, Mary Pennington, Alexa Blessing and Emma Elmore created these presentations and presented them to several classes at Brookville Elementary. The team was able to secure a $900 travel stipend. Ashley Raible received a $750 scholarship and Mary Pennington received honorable mentions.

Emily Stevenson, director of the National Consumer League’s Safety Smart Program was impressed with Ashley’s PowerPoint. Ashley included SmartArt, Graphic, and Charts in her presentation. The PowerPoint skills she used were from her Information, Communication and Technology class at Franklin County High School. This class is also a Dual Credit Class from Ivy Tech Community College in Richmond where she will receive three free hours of credit for this class on her transcript.
