Bad Weather Days 2015-16 *UPDATED INFORMATION*

The decision to delay or cancel school is rarely an easy one and one we do not take lightly.  When making our decision we consult with a number of knowledgeable resources including county and state highway officials, law enforcement personnel, and experienced school bus drivers to help us make informed decisions that will keep your children safe.

Because of our large geographic area, sometimes roads in one area appear passable, while hazardous driving conditions exist in a different part of the county, impacting our ability to operate buses safely.  At other times, after extended periods of bad weather, main roads are passable but lesser-traveled roads are not.  For this reason, we have implemented procedures that may allow us to have fewer “snow days” to make up later in the year.

In addition to the possibility of various delays, we will also have the option of operating with a “2-hour Delay with Limited Bus Service”.  School announcements may include the following:

Any area not included will have normal bus service on a 2-hour delay.

Some activities in these affected areas may also be cancelled.

School will be closed all day and all afterschool and evening activities are canceled unless otherwise announced.  This includes all practices, contests, games, matches, meets, events, facility rentals, etc.

This year, the Franklin County Community School Corporation is using School Messenger, a leading provider of notification services for parental.  Messages can be sent via email, text, or voicemail.  In order for School Messenger to work correctly it is IMPERATIVE that parents and/or guardians provide up to date phone numbers and email addresses.

Please note that while we contact these stations, they may or may not broadcast the information immediately.  School Messenger, NIXLE, and the Corporation Website will provide the fasted and most accurate information.   Parents are NOT to call the schools or the Administration Building.

If school is open students are expected to be in attendance.  In some extreme conditions, school officials may determine that a specific road, roads, or route cannot run due to hazardous road conditions.  In this event, affected students will be counted as an Exempted Absence.
