For the month of April, Mrs. Alta Profitt, Parent Coordinator at Laurel School, has been selected as “Educator of the Month”. According to Franklin County Superintendent, Dr. Debbie Howell, it is a great privilege to publicly honor and recognize someone who has dedicated 54 years to education. Mrs. Profitt’s career in education began in the Cincinnati Public Schools. In 1976, she opened Tot Spot Nursery School in Brookville. For the next 25 years, Mrs. Profitt and Tot Spot Nursery School was a staple on Main Street. She and her staff helped countless Franklin County “kiddos” build a solid foundation for learning, instilled a passion for books, and cultivated curiosity and sense of adventure.
In the spring of 2000, Mrs. Profitt retired from Tot Spot. Not too long after her “retirement” Mrs. Profitt was hired by the Franklin County Community School Corporation as a preschool teacher at Laurel Elementary. In 2012, Mrs. Profitt, once again, tried her hand at retirement. It didn’t take too long for the school to hire her back, this time as a Parent Coordinator at Laurel School.

Superintendent, Dr. Debbie Howell, is thrilled to announce that Mrs. Colleen Tincher has been selected as March’s “Educator of the Month”. According to Howell, “When I picture an exemplary teacher, Mrs. Tincher comes to mind. She embodies all the qualities I look for in a “highly effective” teacher. She serves as a role model for her colleagues.”
Mrs. Tincher serves as Department Chair for the World Languages Department at Franklin County High School. She currently teaches Spanish 1 and 4. She also teaches a dual credit course in conjunction with Ivy Tech. During her 16 years at FCHS she has taught all levels of Spanish. Prior to her tenure at FCHS, Mrs. Tincher taught at Oldenburg Academy, North Decatur Jr/Sr High School, and Lawrenceburg High School.
A current FCHS student nominated Senora Tincher for this recognition. This is not the first time that she has been recognized by students for her dedication and commitment. Mrs. Tincher is a four time I-STAR (Indiana Student-Teacher Achievement Recognition). During her career Senora Tincher has taught Spanish to over 4000 students. Superintendent, Dr. Debbie Howell, is pleased to announce that Mrs. Heather Stang (Flaspohler) is being celebrated as February’s “Educator of the Month”. Just in her fifth year of teaching, Mrs. Stang has already made a significant mark on the lives of her students and their families. To date, she is the youngest teacher to receive this honor.
After graduating from Franklin County High School, Mrs. Stang attended IU Bloomington majoring in Elementary Education. Her first teaching assignment for the Franklin County Schools was kindergarten at Mt. Carmel School. Since her initial assignment she has taught second grade and is currently teaching fifth grade at Mt. Carmel.
Mrs. Stang was nominated for this recognition by a parent. The parent wrote about the positive impact Mrs. Stang has had not only on her child’s attitude about school, but also her academic performance. Because of Mrs. Stang “my child has done a complete turnaround from previous years.” Mrs. Stang is “vibrant, young, and passionate about teaching and nurturing the children in her classroom.”

To mark the one-year anniversary of Franklin County’s “Educator of the Month” program, Mrs. Melissa “Missy” Renforth is being recognized as January’s “Educator of the Month”. Mrs. Renforth is currently a fourth grade teacher at Laurel School.
After receiving her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from Indiana University, Mrs. Renforth was hired by the Franklin County Community School Corporation to cover a maternity leave. The following school year, Mrs. Renforth was hired as a full time elementary teacher at Laurel School. Her teaching tenure at Laurel School spans 27 years, and she has taught third, fourth, and fifth grade.
Mrs. Renforth received multiple nominations for this recognition. One parent wrote, “I feel that Mrs. Renforth has put many years into our school and is a loyal educator. I have witnessed her show compassion, tough love, or just give a simple compliment to make someone’s day.”
According to Superintendent, Dr. Debbie Howell, “when the “Educator of the Month” recognition program was conceived, in addition to considering excellence in the classroom, we also wanted to recognize educators for their leadership and involvement in the school and in the community.” During her career at Laurel School, Mrs. Renforth has immersed herself in … Continue reading
Franklin County Announces Mrs. Laura Frondorf as December’s “Educator of the Month”
According to FCCSC Superintendent, Dr. Debbie Howell, Mrs. Laura Frondorf, has been named named as December’s “Educator of the Month”. Mrs. Frondorf is currently the Media Specialist at both Laurel and Mt. Carmel Schools. Since the inception of the “Educator of the Month” recognition program, this is the first “non-traditional” educator to receive this honor.
Mrs. Frondorf earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education from Indiana State University. She began her career in education as a mild disabilities teacher at Rushville High School. Soon after, Mrs. Frondorf was hired to be a learning disabilities teacher at Brookville Middle School; a position she kept for the next 15 years. While teaching at the middle school, Mrs. Frondorf continued her education, receiving two Master’s Degrees, one in Reading and one in Library Science.
In June of 2008, Mrs. Frondorf’s continuing education paid off, and she was named the Media Specialist for Brookville Middle School and Mt. Carmel School. Since that time, Mrs. Frondorf has served as Media Specialists in all K-8 buildings. She is currently assigned to Laurel School and Mt. Carmel School.
