Board Votes to Rename Middle School
The Franklin County Board of School Trustees voted unanimously to rename “Brookville Middle School”, “Franklin County Middle School” beginning with the 2017-18 school year.

Transition Team Update
In addition to the new name, Mr. Chris Bundy, FCMS Principal, shared the following information regarding Franklin County Middle School with the Board:

  • New Name:  Franklin County Middle School
  • School Mascot:  Wildcats
  • School Colors:  Navy Blue, Columbia Blue, and Silver
  • Mission Statement:  Building a strong community of college and career ready students.
  • Vision Statement:  All students will embrace learning, excel academically, and own their own futures.

Middle School Students to Vote on New Logo
Students participating in the Graphic Arts Class at the Whitewater Career Center were asked to design a logo for Franklin County Middle School.  The logo was to incorporate a triangle (representing the three schools coming together), the school colors, and the school mascot.  The Teacher Transition Team has narrowed the field to three contenders.  All current 6th and 7th grade students will have the opportunity to caste a vote for their favorite design.

Cincinnati Reds Caravan Coming to Middle School
As part of the transition process, opportunities to bring students together prior to the start of 2017-18 school year are being planned. The first of these will occur on January 26th. The Cincinnati Reds Caravan will be stopping in Brookville at the middle school. The current 6th and 7th grade students from Laurel and Mt. Carmel Schools will be bussed into Brookville to participate in this experience with their future classmates.

Franklin County School Board Votes to Reconfigure Middle Schools
At the January 9th school board meeting, the Franklin County Board of School Trustees voted 5-1 to reconfigure the 7th and 8th grades.  Beginning with the 2017-2018 school year all 7th and 8th grade students will attend what is currently known as Brookville Middle School for academics, athletics and extra-curricular activities.  Brookville Middle School will continue to house Brookville’s sixth grade.  Brookville’s fifth grade will be housed at Brookville Elementary School.

Superintendent, Dr. Debbie Howell, is assembling a Transition Team to address topics such as:  master schedule and course offerings, transportation, athletics and extra-curricular activities, etc.

The Board and the Public may expect an update at each monthly board meeting.  Updates will also be posted on the school corporation’s website.  In addition, the Administration will be working closely with the Franklin County Education Association to discuss:  curriculum, teacher assignments, class sizes, safety, etc.
