December Educator of the Month

Franklin County Announces Mrs. Laura Frondorf as December’s “Educator of the Month”

According to FCCSC Superintendent, Dr. Debbie Howell, Mrs. Laura Frondorf, has been named named as December’s “Educator of the Month”.  Mrs. Frondorf is currently the Media Specialist at both Laurel and Mt. Carmel Schools.  Since the inception of the “Educator of the Month” recognition program, this is the first “non-traditional” educator to receive this honor.

Mrs. Frondorf earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education from Indiana State University.  She began her career in education as a mild disabilities teacher at Rushville High School.  Soon after, Mrs. Frondorf was hired to be a learning disabilities teacher at Brookville Middle School; a position she kept for the next 15 years.   While teaching at the middle school, Mrs. Frondorf continued her education, receiving two Master’s Degrees, one in Reading and one in Library Science.

In June of 2008, Mrs. Frondorf’s continuing education paid off, and she was named the Media Specialist for Brookville Middle School and Mt. Carmel School. Since that time, Mrs. Frondorf has served as Media Specialists in all K-8 buildings.  She is currently assigned to Laurel School and Mt. Carmel School.

Mrs. Frondorf was nominated for this recognition by a parent.  According to the parent, Mrs. Frondorf has the ability to “put a spark into a student’s eyes” and gets them excited about reading.  Mrs. Frondorf gets to know her students and is able to find books that match their interests.  She has a knack for turning students that claim they don’t like to read, into fervent readers.

In addition to her school activities and obligations, Mrs. Frondorf is very involved in the community.  She is a member of the Franklin County Community Foundation Board of the Directors, a member of the Macedonia Christian Church, a steering committee member for the Franklin County College Success Coalition, an associate member of Delta Theta Tau sorority, and a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Drewersburg Volunteer Fire Department.

Mrs. Frondorf, her husband, Todd, and son, Nate, own and operate a family farm in West Harrison, Indiana.  In her “free time” she enjoys spending time with her family.  It also comes as no surprise that she is an avid reader and loves sharing books with family and friends.

According to Dr. Howell, Mrs. Frondorf is extremely deserving of this recognition.  Each year, Mrs. Frondorf goes out of her way to find new and different ways to keep students excited about books.  She has brought numerous authors and illustrators to the schools and the community.  Helping students make this real life connection with authors can really turn students on to reading.

When asked about the best part of her job Mrs. Frondorf stated, “I love connecting students with books and sharing my love and enthusiasm for reading with others.  It is a fantastic feeling when I help a student find the perfect book.”

Parents and students are encouraged to nominate outstanding educators for this monthly recognition.  Nomination forms for “Educator of the Month” can be found on the school corporation website at www.fccsc.k12.in.us.
