Mrs. Jean Goins, April’s Educator of the Month

Superintendent, Ms. Tammy Chavis, is thrilled to announce that Mrs. Jean Goins, 2nd grade teacher at Mount Carmel Elementary School, has been selected as April’s “Educator of the Month.” 

Mrs. Jean Goins has been teaching for Franklin County Community Schools for 15 years. Jean received her bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Miami University. 

Mrs. Goins was nominated for this honor by a parent. When asked why Mrs. Goins should be considered for this recognition, the parent responded, “Jean was amazing when my son was learning from home last year. She was simply amazing! Mrs. Goins kept the kids learning and she kept them motivated even though they were at home. They seemed like a class even though they were separated. She helped my son improve three or more reading levels and gave him confidence even when he was struggling. That is hard to do through a computer screen but she did amazing! As hard as it was, she gave a group of kids purpose and excitement!” 

In addition to her teaching responsibilities, Jean is a client advocate for the Reach Out Pregnancy Center, a board member of the Franklin County Arts Council, and an active volunteer of her church community. 

When not at school, Jean enjoys walking, hiking with her husband, traveling, and spending time with her amazing kids. 

When asked what she loves most about her job, Mrs. Goins responded, “The best part of my job is creating a classroom environment where all students feel comfortable and encouraged. I love when a child who thinks she doesn’t like to read finds the right book and suddenly doesn’t want to stop reading…or the child who thinks he can’t do math finds the right strategy and begins to love math. These “lightbulb” moments are what makes this job rewarding.”  

The purpose of the “Educator of the Month” program is to recognize outstanding Franklin County educators who demonstrate excellence in the classroom, leadership in the school, dedication to the students, and involvement in the community.
