Mrs. Shannon New Named as Principal at LES

Superintendent, Ms. Tammy Chavis, announces that Mrs. Shannon New has been selected as Laurel Elementary’s new principal.

Mrs. Shannon New has served as interim principal at Laurel Elementary since October 2021. However, her experience goes far beyond that! Shannon served as the building principal at Mays Community Academy in Rushville for the last 5 years and has spent time as both an elementary and special education teacher. In all, Mrs. New has been in education for 25 years.

Shannon is a graduate of Ball State University where she completed a double major in elementary education and special education. She continued her credentials at Indiana Wesleyan University, earning her Masters. Last but not least, Shannon gained a degree in Administrative Leadership from Western Governors University.

In addition to her administrative responsibilities, Mrs. New is actively involved in the Indiana Association of School Principals and 4H. When not at school, Shannon enjoys spending her “free time” with her husband and two children, living on a small hobby farm, and reading.

When asked what she looks forward to the most in her new position as principal, Mrs. New responded, “I look forward to building relationships with the students and families, as well as the staff. I am excited to become an active member of the school community. I can’t wait to see the great things Laurel Elementary will accomplish!”
