Mrs. Marla Stevens – Educator of the Month for November 2021

Superintendent, Ms. Tammy Chavis, is thrilled to announce that Mrs. Marla Stevens, Principal at Mount Carmel Elementary School, has been selected as November’s “Educator of the Month.”

Mrs. Stevens has been at the Franklin County Community Schools for 6 years. Altogether, Marla has been in education for almost 44 years. Prior to coming to Franklin County, Mrs. Stevens worked at South Harrison Schools, Greater Clark County Schools, Richmond Community Schools, and Rush County Schools. Marla is a graduate of Indiana State University where she earned her Bachelors, Masters, and Secondary Administration Certificate. She furthered her education by receiving her Elementary Administration and Supervision Certificate at Ball State University.

Marla Stevens was nominated for this honor by the Central Office Staff. When asked why Mrs. Stevens should be considered for this recognition, they responded, “The staff in her building absolutely love her. She does a fantastic job at Mount Carmel Elementary! Marla is a great role model for her students and staff. We can’t thank her enough for all she has done.”

In addition to her administrative role, Marla is a member of her church and serves on the Indiana Association of School Principals. When not at school, Marla enjoys traveling, sewing, genealogy research, and playing piano.

When asked what she loves most about her job, Marla responded, “I love working with students and teachers to help them remove barriers to teaching and learning. I love the teaching process itself and to be able to watch students grow and learn.”

The purpose of the “Educator of the Month” program is to recognize outstanding Franklin County educators who demonstrate excellence in the classroom, leadership in the school, dedication to the students, and involvement in the community.
