March Educator of the Month

Photo of Tammy SharpSuperintendent, Ms. Tammy Chavis, is thrilled to announce that Mrs. Tammy Sharp, a teacher at Brookville Elementary School, has been selected as March’s “Educator of the Month.” Mrs. Sharp has been teaching at Franklin County Community Schools for 21 years. Altogether, Tammy has been in education for 32 years. Prior to coming to Franklin County, Mrs. Sharp taught at St. Gabriel School in Connersville, Indiana. Tammy is a graduate of Ball State University where she earned her Bachelor of Science and Master’s Degree in Education.

Mrs. Sharp was nominated for this honor by a parent. When asked why Mrs. Sharp should be considered for this recognition, the parent responded, “Tammy has gone above and beyond to help my daughter. She was really struggling with reading and Tammy has changed my daughter’s whole outlook. She comes home every night now wanting to read me all her new words and books. Tammy communicates with parents and works as a team with us. She has the biggest heart and is an excellent educator. I am so thankful my daughter has been able to be in her class.”

In addition to her teaching responsibilities, Mrs. Sharp serves on the Public Law 221 committee at Brookville Elementary School and is an active member of the Saint Michael Church. When not at school, Tammy enjoys spending her “free time” visiting national parks, shopping, and gardening. Most of all, she loves spending time with her family, friends, and three dogs.

When asked what she loves most about her job, Mrs. Sharp responded, “The best part of my job is interacting with students daily. I love watching students get excited about learning. Their enthusiasm for learning makes teaching enjoyable! I love seeing the students have the determination to never give up and to recognize their own success at learning a skill academically or socially. Knowing that I have left a lasting impression on a student or helped to touch their life in some way is extremely rewarding and is the best part of being a teacher!

The purpose of the “Educator of the Month” program is to recognize outstanding Franklin County educators who demonstrate excellence in the classroom, leadership in the school, dedication to the students, and involvement in the community.
