Superintendent, Dr. Debbie Howell, is pleased to announce that Mrs. Heather Stang is being celebrated as May’s “Educator of the Month”. This is the second time Mrs. Stang has received this recognition.  What makes this second time so special is the fact that four (4) of her sixth-grade students completed nomination forms recognizing the impact she has made on their lives.

After graduating from Franklin County High School, Mrs. Stang attended IU Bloomington majoring in Elementary Education.  Her first teaching assignment for the Franklin County Schools was kindergarten at Mt. Carmel School. Since her initial assignment, she has taught second grade, fifth grade, and is currently teaching sixth grade at Mt. Carmel. Because she has taught so many grade levels at Mt. Carmel she has been “lucky enough to teach some students two or even three times.”

In addition to her classroom duties, Mrs. Stang serves as one of the coaches for the middle school’s Dance Energy Team.  She is also a huge Wildcat fan, cheering on the Franklin County High School Baseball team, coached by her husband, Derek (also an FCHS alumni).

The students that nominated Mrs. Stang for this honor wrote about her determination and high standards.  All the students described how Mrs. Stang pushes them to be the best they can be. They also wrote about her caring and compassionate demeanor and how she makes learning fun.

According to Mrs. Stang, “The best part of my job is watching my students set goals for themselves and watching the excitement on their face when they achieve those goals.  I also love that I can be creative and make learning fun.”

Parents and students are encouraged to nominate outstanding educators for this monthly recognition.  Nomination forms for “Educator of the Month” can be found on the school corporation website at www.fccsc.k12.in.us.
