Franklin County Announces Mrs. Cathi St. John as November’s “Educator of the Month”

FCCSC Superintendent, Dr. Debbie Howell, is pleased to announce that Mrs. Cathi St. John is being recognized as, November’s “Educator of the Month”.  Mrs. St. John currently serves as a business teacher at Franklin County High School. In addition, Mrs. St. John, teaches several dual credit courses, sponsors the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), Environmental Club, and is co-manager of the school’s bookstore.

A graduate of Morristown High School, St. John attended Ball State University where she earned both her Bachelor and Masters degrees.  Upon completion of her Bachelor degree, she was hired as a business teacher and cheer sponsor at Laurel School. 34 years later, she is still teaching, encouraging, and supporting the students of Franklin County.

Mrs. St. John was actually nominated by a colleague.  According to her colleague, Mrs. St. John is dedicated, compassionate, and caring.  It’s not only what she does “in” the classroom, that impacts her students, but it’s also all the “extras” that she does before and after school and on the weekends.  Mrs. St. John is a “staple” at home football and basketball games, overseeing the sales of Wildcat gear by students from her marketing class and FBLA. Many of her FBLA students attend and compete at the State Conference each year.  Over the years her students have experienced much success at the State Conference.

When asked about the best part of her job, Mrs. St. John responded, “The best part of my job at FCHS is working with my students on a daily basis.   The classes that I teach are all electives, so the students choose to take them. As a high school teacher, each class period brings a different group of students into your classroom, which also brings a different dynamic and challenges.

I am blessed to have many wonderful students that are eager to learn and excited to be at school and also to get involved in activities.  I enjoy working with my students and watching them grasp new concepts. As a sponsor of two clubs, you are able to get to know the students on a different level.    It is very rewarding to watch the FBLA and Environmental club officers become leaders in their organization. It is also rewarding to see students compete at the state conference level and receive recognition for their events.

I am also blessed to have great co-workers who are always willing to share new ideas and help with any concerns.   It is very rewarding when you enjoy what you do and enjoy those that you work with.”

The purpose of the “Educator of the Month” program is to recognize outstanding Franklin County educators who demonstrate excellence in the classroom, leadership in the school, dedication to the students, and involvement in the community.  Nomination forms for “Educator of the Month” can be found on the school corporation website at www.fccsc.k12.in.us.
