January 2018 Educator of the Month

Franklin County Announces Mrs. Lauren Franks as January’s “Educator of the Month”

Superintendent, Dr. Debbie Howell, is pleased to announce that, Mrs. Lauren Franks, has been named as 2018’s first “Educator of the Month”.  Mrs. Franks is currently a sixth grade teacher at Mt. Carmel School.  According to Howell, “Mrs. Franks has the ability to connect with her students and develops relationships with them that continue beyond their sixth grade year.”

Mrs. Franks earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Northern Kentucky University.  After graduating from NKU, Mrs. Franks first worked in an Early Childhood Center in Ohio.  She began her tenure at Mt. Carmel as a long term sub.  Eventually, she was hired as a third grade teacher and for the last three years, has taught sixth grade.

A former student nominated Mrs. Franks for this honor.  The student wrote about Mrs. Franks’ “relationship with all of her students.”  The student went on to mention how easy it was to talk to Mrs. Franks and how accessible she was when students needed extra help.

In addition to her work in the classroom, Mrs. Franks is a vital member of the Mt. Carmel Staff.  She is Student Council sponsor and serves as a coach for Girls on the Run.  She also volunteers her time to help with various FFA activities.

When not at school, Mrs. Franks enjoys spending time with her family and her horses.  During the summer months she gives horseback riding lessons, as well as conducts clinics for local 4-H Horse and Pony clubs.

When asked what the best part of her job is, Mrs. Franks replied, “The best part of my job is knowing that I have made a positive impact on the lives of my students. Being nominated by a former student for an award like this, humbles me more than anything. Knowing that I impacted a student that strongly, is the best part of my job.”

The purpose of the “Educator of the Month” program is to recognize outstanding Franklin County educators who demonstrate excellence in the classroom, leadership in the school, dedication to the students, and involvement in the community. Parents and students are encouraged to nominate outstanding educators for this monthly recognition.  Nomination forms for “Educator of the Month” can be found on the school corporation website at www.fccsc.k12.in.us.
