December Educator of the Month

In just four short months, Brookville Middle School teacher, Samantha Walter, is already receiving accolades from her students.  Superintendent, Dr. Debbie Howell, is pleased to announce that Mrs. Walter has been selected as Franklin County’s December “Educator of the Month”.  Mrs. Walter was nominated for this recognition by a student in her classroom.

Mrs. Walter joined the Brookville Middle School staff in August of this year.  She is currently teaching sixth grade at the middle school.  While Mrs. Walter is new to the Franklin County Community School Corporation, she is not new to teaching.  Prior to making the move to Brookville Middle School, she has been employed as a teacher in the Lawrenceburg Community School Corporation and the Sunman Dearborn Community School Corporation.

Mrs. Walter grew up in southern Ontario, Canada.  She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario and a Masters in Education from D’Youville College, in New York.  In addition, she has earned her certification in Mild Disabilities through Indiana Wesleyan University.

The student that nominated Mrs. Walter for this recognition, states that Mrs. Walter is “very caring and she is really good at helping me with my homework and explaining things that I don’t understand.”  “Mrs. Walter has done such an amazing job teaching and helping us understand our lessons.”

In her “free time”, Mrs. Walter stays busy with her family.  She and her husband live in Franklin County with their two youngs sons. When time allows, they enjoy traveling to Ontario to visit with family and friends.  Her husband, Mr. Dennis Walter, currently teaches social studies at Franklin County High School.  In addition, to their teaching duties, the Walter family contributes to the school and the community by coaching and sponsoring a variety of activities.

When asked about the best part of teaching at Brookville Middle School, Walter stated, “The best part of teaching is attempting to instill a passion for learning in students. I enjoy watching students learn something new and feel confident in their new skills. I find myself dedicated to creating meaningful relationships and supporting students in their pursuit of learning as well as in their extracurriculars.”

The purpose of the “Educator of the Month” program is to recognize outstanding Franklin County educators who demonstrate excellence in the classroom, leadership in the school, dedication to the students, and involvement in the community.  Nomination forms for “Educator of the Month” can be found on the school corporation website at www.fccsc.k12.in.us.
