October Educator of the Month

Superintendent, Dr. Debbie Howell, is pleased to announce that Franklin County High School Biology teacher, Mrs. Cindy Andrews, has been named as October’s “Educator of the Month”.  According to Howell, “Mrs. Andrews is an exemplary educator.  She not only excels in the classroom, but is always the first to volunteer for committees, embraces change, and supports students both in and out of the classroom.”

Mrs. Andrews earned her Bachelor of Science Education degree from Indiana University East. After receiving her teaching degree she was hired to teach science at Franklin County High School and has been an integral part of the science department for the last 15 years.  According to Mrs. Andrews, she was hired in as a stranger, but over the years the Franklin County High School staff has become like family.  The community has embraced her and made her proud to call Franklin County home.

A former student nominated Mrs. Andrews for this honor.  The student wanted to thank Mrs. Andrews for everything she does for her students.  Mrs. Andrews is always willing to “stay after school, tutor us, and do whatever it takes to help us learn.”

In addition to identifying individuals who demonstrate excellence in the classroom and dedication to the students, the “Educator of the Month” program recognizes leadership in the school and involvement in the community.  Mrs. Andrews can be seen taking tickets at all home football and basketball games.  She is one of the original members of the Freshmen Academy team, as well as the sponsor for Franklin County’s SADD (Students Against Drunk Drivers) chapter.  Mrs. Andrews also serves as Freshmen Class sponsor, National Honor Society co-sponsor, and Student Council co-sponsor. She also serves on the Graduation and Attendance Committee at the high school.

Outside of the classroom, Mrs. Andrews enjoys spending time with her husband and their two dogs.  She is an avid reader, loves to listen to music, and enjoys cooking.

When asked what the best part of her job is, Mrs. Andrews replied, “The best part of my job is when we work together on difficult concepts. I view myself and my students as a team, working together to achieve success. When I see students who have not had much success achieve it, the look in their eyes and on their faces makes me realize there is no other place I want to be. When students say…”hey I am pretty smart after all” or “I can do this”, I always tell them “ I knew you could as soon as you walked in my door. That is my favorite part of the job.”

Parents and students are encouraged to nominate outstanding educators for this monthly recognition.  Nomination forms for “Educator of the Month” can be found on the school corporation website at www.fccsc.k12.in.us.
