September Educator of the Month

School Superintendent, Dr. Debbie Howell, is pleased to announce that Mrs. Wendy Ritzi has been selected as September’s “Educator of the Month” for the Franklin County Community School Corporation.   Mrs. Ritzi is currently a fourth grade teacher at Mt. Carmel School.  During her tenure at Mt.Carmel School Mrs. Ritzi has also taught second grade and sixth grade, as well as, serving as Athletic Director for six years.

Mrs. Ritzi, a graduate of Franklin County High School, received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education from Indiana University.  Most recently she earned a Master’s Degree in Educational Administration and Leadership from Ball State University.  She resides in Franklin County with her husband and two sons.

A parent nominated Mrs. Ritzi for this special recognition.  According to the parent, Mrs. Ritzi is uplifting, encouraging, and absolutely wonderful with all the children.  From Mrs. Ritzi, children learn self respect and self worth. It is Mrs. Ritzi’s smiling face and positive attitude that help encourage her students to excel both in and out of the classroom.

In addition to her ten years in the classroom, Mrs. Ritzi has served the community working at Heap Memorial Swimming Pool.  She began as a lifeguard and eventually was hired as pool manager. According to Ritzi, she gained a lot of experience teaching, coordinating swimming lessons, working with the public, and managing employees.  Many of the skills she acquired and developed during her years as lifeguard and pool manager, she now applies in the classroom.

When asked about the best part of her job, Mrs. Ritzi responded, “The best part of my job is being able to watch my students grow and succeed.  Knowing I can be a positive influence on a student is the reason I teach.  Its very rewarding to have  a student (or parent) tell me how much of a difference I’ve made in their life.”

Dr. Howell commented that she is “beyond excited” to recognize Mrs. Ritzi with this honor.  “On the day I delivered the news to Mrs. Ritzi in her classroom, her fourth graders broke out in applause for their teacher.  That speaks volumes about the respect and admiration her students have for her,” said Howell.

Parents and students are encouraged to nominate their favorite Franklin County educator.  Nomination forms for “Educator of the Month” can be found on the school corporation website at www.fccsc.k12.in.us.
