June Educator of the Month

School Superintendent, Dr. Debbie Howell, is pleased to announce that Mrs. Jean Goins has been selected as June’s “Educator of the Month” for the Franklin County Community School Corporation.   Mrs. Goins is currently a fourth grade teacher at Brookville Elementary.  During her tenure at Brookville Elementary School Mrs. Goins has also taught third grade and kindergarten.

Mrs. Goins received her degree in Elementary Education from Miami University.  Her first teaching job was as a kindergarten teacher for the Southwest Local School District in Ohio.  Mrs. Goins has three children of her own: Ellen, Joey, and Molly, and took a 10 year “sabbatical” from teaching to stay home with her family. Once she was ready to return to teaching, Mrs. Goins began her career in Franklin County.

A grandmother nominated Mrs. Goins for this special recognition.  Mrs. Goins taught both her granddaughters in fourth grade, as well as in kindergarten.  She writes, “Mrs. Jean Goins excelled by going above and beyond the call of duty as a teacher doing so many things for her students.  We not only saw this when she was a kindergarten teacher but now as a fourth grade teacher.  Without a doubt, she is an inspiration to any student that has the privilege to have her as a teacher.”

As a community member and teacher leader, Mrs. Goins is very active.  She is a member of the Franklin County Fine Arts Council where she volunteers her time to update the Council’s Facebook Page.  She serves as a deaconess for her church and is a member of the school corporation’s Teacher Evaluation Committee.  Recently, Mrs. Goins was instrumental in orchestrating  the first S.T.E.M. Day at Brookville Elementary School.  Mrs. Goins collaborated with FCHS Science Department staff in the planning and execution of the event.  30 high school students spent the day at Brookville Elementary putting on science demonstrations, conducting experiments, and leading investigations with the fourth graders.

When asked about the best part of his job, Mrs Goins responded, “The best part of my job is cheering on students and helping students get to the point where they feel self confident enough to problem solve independently and think for themselves.  I also love it when they find the right books and begin to have a love of reading.”.

Dr. Howell commented that she was thrilled Mrs. Goins was nominated for this honor.  “When the “Educator of the Month” recognition program was conceived, Mrs. Goins was exactly the type of teacher that came to mind.  Mrs. Goins is truly a teacher leader.  Brookville Elementary and the Franklin County Community School Corporation is blessed to have her on staff.”
