Education

Melia Neubert (B.M.E, Miami University) is in her 6th year as the Choir Director and Assistant Band Director in the Franklin County School Cooperation where she teaches Beginning and Jr. High Band at Laurel Elementary School as well as Ladies and Mixed Choir at the High School.  Additionally, she assists the Band at the High School.  In addition to her work at Franklin County Schools, she sings and plays drum set on occasion with an organization in Columbus, Ohio and teaches Zumba Fitness classes in and around the area.

Professional

Prior to her arrival to Franklin County Schools, Melia has sung with top groups such as the Columbus Youth Choral and Oxford Community Choral.  She has also performed with the Miami University Marching Band in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade (2003), GMAC Bowl (2003), and the Independence Bowl (2004).  As an Alumnus she performed in the GoDaddy.com Bowl (2011).  Besides performing with the Miami University Marching Band, she has performed with the Miami University Steel Band.  With this group, she has performed alongside great musicians such as Ellie Mannette, Andy Narell, Liam Teague and Tom Miller, to name a few.  She can be heard on Steel Band’s 2006 CD, Simple Pleasures, for sale on iTunes.

Awards

Melia’s professional associations and honors include MENC: The National Association for Music Education, ISSMA: Indiana State School Music Association and ACDA: American Choral Directors Association.  She is also an alumnus member of the Kappa Kappa Psi Fraternity, an honorary service fraternity for college bands.  An honor she holds is receiving the John Philip Sousa Award (2002).
