Franklin County Community School Corporation
Bad Weather Days
Winter may bring weather conditions that require changes to our school schedule. Because of our large geographic area, sometimes roads in one area appear passable, while hazardous driving conditions exist in a different part of the county, impacting our ability to operate buses safely. At other times, after extended periods of bad weather, main roads are passable but lesser-traveled roads are not. For this reason, we are implementing new procedures that may allow us to have fewer “snow days” to make up later in the year.
In addition to the possibility of various delays, we will also have the option of operating with a “2-hour Delay with Limited Bus Service”. School announcements may include the following:

Please remember that as a parent/guardian, YOU are the final judge of whether your children will attend school if there is a delayed opening, Limited Bus Service, etc. Even if school is in session, your child will not be counted absent if you believe conditions in your area are unsafe or if the school bus is unable to travel your road or if you are in a “Limited Bus Service” area. Please contact the school office so that the reason for your student’s absence can be verified.
In the event of a change in our school schedule, we will notify the following media, who have agreed to announce the information as soon as possible:

EMERGENCY ALERT AUTO-CALL SYSTEM
This is an automated system that delivers a recorded voice message directly to a home phone, cell phone, or work phone. In the event of an early dismissal only,we use this system to notify parents. If you did not submit this number when you registered your child for school, or if you have changed your number, please contact the school with this information.
The decision to delay or not delay or cancel school is rarely an easy one and there is always the opportunity to criticize or second-guess such decisions. Please understand that we are not weather experts and the size of our school district means that conditions can vary greatly from one end of the district to the other. We will consult with a number of knowledgeable resources including county and state highway officials, law enforcement personnel, and experienced school bus drivers to help us make informed decisions that will keep your children safe.
LIMITED BUS SERVICE AREA PICK-UP POINTS
We have created a single page notice with all of the pertinent information for the three “Limited Bus Service” areas. Please print the appropriate page for your area and post in an easily accessible location within your home, like the refrigerator. Doing so, will provide you with all of the information you need when inclement weather hits.
